The route: the A22 up the Adige valley
Verona’s Valerio Catullo airport lies at Villafranca, about 10 km south-west of the city, right beside the junction of the A4 and A22 motorways. Within minutes we join the Brenner motorway at Verona Nord and head north through the Vallagarina, past Rovereto and Trento, to the Salorno gorge, where South Tyrol begins.
It is motorway almost all the way to Bolzano, about 155 km. For the Dolomite valleys we leave the motorway at the exit for your valley and the mountain roads begin, with hairpin bends and villages to pass through: that is where it helps to have someone at the wheel who knows the road, especially at night or in snow. These are the exits we use most often.
- Bolzano Sud: the city itself and, via the MeBo expressway, Merano.
- Bolzano Nord – Val d’Ega: Lago di Carezza, Nova Levante, Obereggen and, over Passo Costalunga, the Val di Fassa.
- Egna – Ora: the Val di Fiemme and the Val di Fassa from the south, via Cavalese and Predazzo.
- Chiusa – Val Gardena: Ortisei, Santa Cristina and Selva.
- Bressanone – Val Pusteria: Brunico, Plan de Corones and, through the Val Badia, Alta Badia.
Verona airport transfer times at a glance
Times assume normal traffic and dry roads. On summer Saturdays and Italian bank-holiday weekends the A22 can slow down considerably; in winter the final climb to the villages depends on snow. Before we set off we always give you a realistic arrival time.
- Bolzano: about 155 km, 1 h 45 – 2 h 15.
- Merano: about 180 km, 2 h – 2 h 30.
- Castelrotto and Siusi allo Sciliar: about 180 km, 2 h 15 – 2 h 30.
- Bressanone: about 195 km, 2 h – 2 h 30.
- Ortisei and Selva in Val Gardena: about 190–200 km, 2 h 15 – 2 h 45; see our Val Gardena transfer.
- Canazei in the Val di Fassa: about 200 km, 2 h 45 – 3 h 15.

On arrival: Terminal 2 and a name board
At Verona, departures use Terminal 1 and arrivals Terminal 2, two neighbouring buildings. After baggage reclaim you walk out into the arrivals hall: Ferjy is waiting there with a board showing your name, helps with the suitcases and walks you to the vehicle.

The Mercedes V-Class has room for seven people and everyone’s luggage; skis and snowboards travel with you, and child seats are booked together with the transfer.
Summer, winter and busy weekends
The A22 is the main artery between the plain and the Brenner Pass, and on summer Saturdays traffic heading for South Tyrol meets traffic bound for Lake Garda. For arrivals on those days we build in extra time, and for the return trip we suggest an earlier departure time.
In winter Verona also receives seasonal flights for skiers, often on Saturdays. The V-Class runs on winter tyres and carries skis and boots; before the final climbs to Selva, Canazei or Corvara we check road conditions.
For Cortina d’Ampezzo, on the other hand, Verona is rarely the most convenient airport: the drive from Venice or Treviso is shorter. You will find the details on the Venice and Treviso airport transfer page.
Train plus transfer: when it makes sense
There is an alternative. A shuttle bus runs from the airport to Verona Porta Nuova station in about 15–20 minutes; from there, trains to Bolzano take from about 1 h 30 to over 2 hours, depending on the type of train. With light luggage and convenient times it can work well.
If you prefer the train, Ferjy can meet you at Bolzano station and drive you up to the valley, or collect you straight from Verona station.
